Bumer

You go to SOOO much work to create a stunning space to spotlight the shoes you have so painstakingly made...

... and then you screw it all up with one stupid misspelling.

That's such a... bumer.

How Things Have Changed!

It wasn't all that long ago that the more advanced areas of Second Life looked pretty much like the photo above, taken in 2006.

Nowadays the landscapes are stunning.

So is the resident-created content.

Compare the sneakers above to my state-of-the-art shoes from early 2007:

So to are the avatars:

Compare to this early avatar:

In-world innovations like sculpted prims and mesh, Windlight, and shadows have made this new look possible, but it would be an empty world without the work of content creators, who have been amazing.

Still, I miss the ability to create content in world. I mean, sure, we have prims, but for advanced content you have to go off-world and use external programs.

Sigh.

Not Gonna Happen

Not Gonna Happen

Here are some of the styles I am NOT gonna be wearing.

I'm sure these styles look good on someone. Just not me.

Above is Diva by Sayaka. I like the messiness of the style, but I won't be walking the red carpet in it.

That's Karen by EMOtions, above. There were so many Demo things going on it was difficult to see what it actually looked like. As shown, it's WAY too small for my egg head.

That's Elegant by HA, above. Those couple of flexi tendrils weren't able to salvage the helmet head look.

That's Satsuma by Rosy Mood Hair. It has a three-bottles-of-hairspray look.

This mesh do is Aida by Wasabi Pill. I waited long minutes waiting for the hairbase to snap into focus. It never did. Shame. It wasn't a bad hairdo otherwise.

Delilah by ChiChickie

This is my favorite hairdo, and my favorite photo. It's the image that has been giving Google conniptions. I finally managed, by cropping, to get the picture to load. The original is wider and taller and looks even better.

Fashion Show: Hair Fair Demos

Okay, it's once again time for me to prove this is not a Second Life fashion blog. Here I am in demos of various styles I picked up at the Hair Fair.

Keep in mind my head is shaped like an egg, so some of the non-modifiable hairdoes don't fit. And I'm not necessarily wearing the makeup that works best with the style (as above). I wasn't looking for the perfect fit or the perfect photo; I was just trying to see how the various styles looked on me.

Also keep in mind I immediately trashed the most disastrous hairstyles. In this post I'm showing the styles that looked good upon first impression. I'll look at them all again and then decide which ones make the cut. In the next post I'll show the styles that don't quite work.

I like Posh, above, and will probably buy it in just that color. It doesn't work well with the semi-goth makeup I'm wearing but should work with some of my other skin variants.

Above is a style by EMOtions. The shape works well with my head, but I don't think I'll buy it. I'm just not that moved by it.

The do above is from EMOtions. It's a great dread look, but doesn't work with my skin shade.

Above is Marie, from Fashionably Dead. I like it and will take a second look at it.

Above is Iren, by Rory. Another probable.

I like the long locks of Melanie from Iren. Unfortunately I remember this as being as rigid as a frozen weasel, so I won't be buying it-- but I do like the look from the rear. I'm hoping upon second look the style has some flexiiprims.

Rosalie from Miss C is a beautiful style, expertly made. I may buy it even though it's more than a bit 1980s.

This is Zoey from Wasabi Pill. It's a style that would work wonderfully with my First Peoples outfits, but it's mesh, meaning about 1/3 of Second Life's population wouldn't see it. More importantly, Sweetie wouldn't see it. So I don't think I'll be buying it.

Finally, there's Winter Rose from Lollipopz-- or maybe it's Lollipopz from Winter Rose. The look is a little princessey, but I like it.

Mad at Google

Mad at Google

After a frustrating week trying to work on the post that follows this one, I discovered my problem has to do with one particular JPG image. No matter how I resize it or rename it, convert it, and even copy it with Print Screen and make an absolutely new file, it just won't load.

I'm upset with Google because signing up for space on Picasa at $5 per month didn't fix the problem. I already had space with them, for $5 a year. And what are ya gonna go, call Google?

Google Bytes Me

[DON'T BE EVIL photo would be placed here if Google weren't in fact evil.]

Google Bytes Me

A long time ago I passed the 1 GB limit for free photos on Picasa. Since a photoless blog about Second Life would be unfortunate, I elected to spend $5 a year for 25 GB of additional storage space.

Tonight I tried to add a photo to my blog and found out my account was no more. Apparently Google tried to charge my account and the payment didn't go through because the expiration date had changed. Old Don't Be Evil didn't send me a notice so I could change, they just turned off my account so I'd have to re-up at $2.49 per month for the same 25 GB of storage.

So now I'm going to have to pay $30 per year-- well, $29.88-- for the same storage-- either that, or there will be no more pictures.

Now that's what I call Not Being Evil.

p.s. I paid them, dammit, and yet won't be able to add a photo to this post for a day or two. When I'm finally allowed, I'll place the image I chose below this line.
